VOLUMES - July 5, 2012 The Gramercy Theatre
Note: I did take pictures of all the band members, just that these look the best, the other ones kind of came out crappy lol.
The first band to play was Hands Like Houses. I’d never really heard them before yesterday, but they were pretty fucking rad. Leon (Le boyfriend), kept asking me what was their name because he wanted to download them when he got home. He usually listens to reggae and hip-hop (Though I’m slowly converting him to the dark side, mwhahaha). Anyway, they sounded amazing, but I felt that some of the members needed some more liveliness in their performance. But either way, rocking performance. At this time, the pit was pretty dead.
Next to play was Volumes!!! This was pretty much the band that I mostly went for (along with The Acacia Strain and Oceano). I’ve been dying to see these guys live for the longest and just like their album VIA, they did not fucking disappoint me. They were a- fucking-mazing. The crowd got wild and the mosh pit was going crazy. I was going crazy too, singing all the lyrics and of course taking pictures. And they sang the song that got me into them, “Wormholes.” Ahhh!! Their stage presence is amazing, they really interact with the crowd. Especially when Gus jumped into the crowd >_> lol. They also played “Intake” and there was a moment where Michael Barr pointed at me while singing “Because I missed my last chance to say that I love you.” I lost my mind at that time. Too bad I was too into it to actually catch it on my camera lol. But yeah loved it.
For All Those Sleeping were next. They were pretty cool. They made me LOL. Since I’ve never heard them before either, I didn’t know the songs. But then they played “You Belong With Me” by Taylor Swift lmao. I was dying. My inner white girl was let out. Was fun. Aside from that I don’t have much to say lol.
Next was In Fear and Faith, again fun performance. Took some pictures. Not much to say cuz I don’t remember much from it >_> maybe I was headbanging or something. But I guess that says something if they’re not very memorable. But I’ll probably check out their stuff later on.
The Chariot played afterward… I have checked out their stuff before because a friend suggested them, but I don’t know. I never really got into them. To be honest, I didn’t like their sound at all. Neither did Leon. I felt they sounded terrible. I guess I’m picky about the type of screaming I like, and his (lead singer) sounded like a girl shrieking in a horror movie. Now that I’ve said terrible things about them, on to the good parts of their performance! They were REALLY interactive with the crowd, so they weren’t so horrible to watch. Especially the guitarist, Stephen Harrison. He actually went to the middle of the pit and started moshing a little with his guitar and just running around lol. That was fun to watch. And the lead singer was skipping around too. But seriously, Stephen was going fucking crazy. Pretty cool to watch, but I don’t like their sound on or off albums. I mean of course I’ll give them another try, but I didn’t like them.
It was intermission and they were setting up for Oceano. This tall ass kid comes up to me and Leon and he asks Leon if he is Adam from Oceano and if he could take a picture. LMFAO. I was dying. Leon’s only response was “Umm I’m not, but you can take a picture anyway lol” The kid felt super awkward, you could tell by his face. HA. But anyway, that was interesting. I’ll put up a picture of my boyfriend and Adam later on (They really do look alike, kind of scary). Anway, Oceano was awesome of course. Loved seeing them live for the first time. And I have to mention Devin’s guitar because it is fucking awesome looking. I think this is when I started losing my voice… especially after all the screaming I did when Volumes came out.
Last but definitely not least was The Acacia Strain. They were of course pretty awesome. I’m happy they played “Whoa! Shut it Down” and “JFC.” Vincent was pretty crazy as usual. It was hilarious because he kept putting water in his mouth and spraying up in the air. Most of it though landed on the security guard though, same security guard that was being a dick and telling me not to take pictures, so I’m glad he got wet with Vincent’s spit >:). He looked pissed and disgusted. Anyway, there were a lot of moments where he just threw water into the crowd, and damn we needed it. Lots of pit activity just like with Oceano. They were awesome and lots of encouraging words were said, and a few for Randy Blythe. Great way to end the show.
Overall, out of all 7 bands, they were all pretty amazing, minus the Chariot. And I can definitely say there will be some new additions to my music.
They only played a few songs but oh my fucking god they were so amazing!! Photos later on, I’m too fucking tired lol
